Square alternative · Online + in-person payments

ShieldBill Pay
vs Square

If your business uses Square, payments may be tied to the till, appointments, invoices and online store. An alternative needs to cover the parts of that workflow you rely on, as well as the processing rate.

The offering, before the pitch

What does Square offer?

Square presents online and in-person payments alongside hardware, invoices, payment links and developer APIs. Its payments page describes counter, mobile and remote collection workflows. Product and country availability should be checked for the business applying.

Which approach fits your business?

When to consider ShieldBill Pay

Start with ShieldBill Pay when your main requirement is finding a suitable PSP for your business model. Include physical selling, invoicing and booking needs so the proposed route is assessed against them. A payment-provider enquiry does not by itself replace POS software or hardware.

When to consider Square

Consider Square when its connected payment tools and physical selling setup fit your operation. Test the workflow with staff who take payments and reconcile sales.

A better brief. A clearer decision.

What to ask before you apply.

What happens at the counter?

List readers, printers, receipts, tipping and offline procedures. Ask whether each device can work in the proposed setup or needs replacement. Include staff training and the day you switch hardware in the implementation estimate.

Which business records must remain connected?

Map orders, stock, appointments and customer profiles to their current system. Decide which system remains authoritative after a payment change. Test a refund and a cancelled appointment as well as a successful purchase.

Can I change only online payments?

Specify whether physical sales should remain where they are. Assess reporting, customer identity and reconciliation across the split setup, then confirm which integrations and account terms permit the arrangement.

Square comparison: common questions

Does a Square alternative have to replace my POS?

A new online PSP and a full POS replacement are different projects. Explain the tools and channels you want to keep before comparing proposals and integrations.

Can ShieldBill Pay assess a business that also sells offline?

Include that information in the brief. The team can discuss your requirements; support for particular devices, channels and countries depends on the provider selected.
