Shopify Payments on hold?
Keep your store selling.
Your store is open. Your payouts are stuck. Get the hold moving. We’ll help find your next payment provider and protect the sales and subscriptions you worked to build.
Check whether payouts, new charges or both are restricted. The store owner needs to follow Shopify’s notice. Confirm provider availability before planning a checkout switch.
Your payout hold. Your next action.
Read the Shopify admin notification and the email sent to the store owner. Check the exact request and any deadline. Shopify identifies that notice as the starting point for an account hold.
Check whether customers can still pay. Shopify says many payout holds leave checkout available, while some restrictions affect new orders. A working storefront does not prove that money can be paid out. Keep the status of charges and payouts separate.
| The problem | The first check |
|---|---|
| Payouts on hold | The owner’s notice and information requests. |
| New payments suspended | Which payment methods still work. |
| A reserve | The amount withheld and account-specific terms. |
| A missing gateway | Provider availability for the store’s region and setup. |
Put the store owner on the response.
Shopify says only the store owner can access the specific payment-account details needed to resolve a hold. Make sure that person has the notice and can supply the requested information through the official channel.
Keep the request, submitted documents and follow-up messages together. Contact Shopify Support if the notice is unclear. Do not assume that a generic staff banner contains the full reason, or send identity and banking documents through our public enquiry form.
Find the provider your store can use.
Tell us what you sell, your company country, volume and current restriction. Include the store plan, payment methods and subscription app. We help find suitable PSPs and prepare the application.
Shopify must support the chosen gateway for your region and configuration. Confirm it in your store before agreeing a launch. A PSP approving your business does not by itself confirm Shopify checkout compatibility. Compare the PSP fees and Shopify’s applicable third-party transaction fees.
- Check country and business eligibility with the provider.
- Confirm that the gateway is available for this store.
- Review payment methods, subscriptions and total fees.
- Test checkout, refunds and order updates before launch.
Keep the next renewal in view.
Shopify subscriptions have their own gateway and payment-method requirements. List upcoming charges and confirm the supported handover with the subscription app and receiving provider. Some customers may need to update payment details.
We help plan eligible saved-card and billing migration where the providers and platform support it. Do not assume Shopify-held credentials can be exported to any vault or PSP. Confirm compatibility before promising an uninterrupted renewal.
Old payouts. New payment plan.
Keep working through the hold even if a replacement provider becomes available. A new gateway does not release money retained by Shopify Payments. Refunds, disputes and existing payouts still need an owner.
Build a backup around the connections your store actually supports. Any ShieldBill billing or routing work needs a confirmed integration path. This guide helps you choose the next payment setup; it does not announce a native Shopify integration.
PUT THE PLAN TO WORK
Your Shopify Payments hold checklist.
Get the store owner’s response and supported payment options clear.
A new provider does not release held Shopify Payments funds. Gateway, subscription and any ShieldBill integration support must be confirmed for the actual store.
Common questions.
Why are my Shopify Payments on hold?
Use the store owner’s email and admin notice. Shopify lists information requests, bank details and business eligibility among possible reasons. Your own notice determines what to do.
Can customers still buy while payouts are on hold?
Often they can, but some holds also affect new charges. Check the notification and the actual checkout status before relying on continued sales.
Can I use another payment provider?
A supported third-party provider may be an option. It must accept your business and be available for your store’s country and configuration. Check fees and the connection before switching.
Will Stripe replace Shopify Payments automatically?
No. Shopify’s gateway-availability guidance says standalone Stripe is generally unavailable in Shopify Payments regions. Follow the options for your own store rather than assuming a new Stripe account fixes checkout.
Can you save my existing subscriptions?
We help plan the handover. Shopify, the subscription app, payment method and receiving gateway must support it. Eligible card migration and billing schedules are separate checks; some customers may need to authorise a new method.
