Square holding funds?
Keep new sales coming.

Square holding your money? Your bills keep coming. Get the transfer issue clear. We’ll help find another processor for new sales and get your backup ready.

A late transfer, an account review and a reserve are different problems. Check which one you have before changing checkout or promising customers a refund date.

Missing a Square transfer?
Trace the payment first.

Open the transfer details in Square. Match the amount, payment status and destination bank account. Check the correct location if your business uses more than one. Then read any account-review or reserve notice.

A completed customer payment and a completed bank transfer are different milestones. Record the transfer status and any expected arrival information. Use the agreement for your account’s country; the linked Square help pages describe US accounts.

What you seeWhat to check
A pending or missing transferPayment completion, transfer schedule and destination bank.
An account information requestThe documents and response channel Square provides.
A reserveThe amount withheld and the stated release schedule.
A deactivation noticeAny appeal route, retained balance and replacement processing.

Account under review?
Get the response ready.

Square’s transfer guidance lists account review and incomplete information requests among reasons transfers can be unavailable. Complete the requested steps through Square’s secure process. Check for follow-up messages.

If a transfer is marked completed but your bank cannot find it, keep the transfer reference and destination details together for support. Do not keep changing bank details or refunding orders just to test the account. First establish what actually happened to the payment.

Square holding a reserve?
Know what stays held.

If Square has applied a reserve, read the terms in the Reserve Dashboard and notification. Separate money scheduled for release from money available for transfer. Keep refunds and disputes in the same reconciliation record.

Ask support about unclear amounts or dates. Use the information for your own account rather than another merchant’s timeline. A reserve schedule is different from the date a provider reviews whether the reserve should continue.

Your next sale.
Another way to get paid.

Tell us your products, company country, volume and which Square functions still work. We find suitable PSPs and help prepare onboarding for future payments. Keep the current review moving alongside that work.

Compare the new provider’s settlement and reserve terms before committing. Include online payments, invoices, subscriptions and any counter sales you need to replace. Provider approval and a tested connection come before launch.

  • Get the complete fee and settlement schedule.
  • Confirm the checkout, invoice or terminal connection.
  • Check saved-card and recurring-payment support separately.
  • Test payments, refunds and order notifications.

Before the next hold.
Build your backup.

A second account is useful when your team can actually take a payment through it. With ShieldBill, prepare supported billing and routing across approved providers. Record who owns activation and reconciliation.

The original Square balance stays with Square’s process. Keep customers informed about existing orders and refunds. Make the new payment route clear so a customer is not charged twice during the switch.

A pending transfer, an account review and a reserve are different issues. Another processor does not release Square funds or set its review timeline.

Common questions.

Why is Square holding my money?

Check transfer details and your account notices. A bank-verification issue, transfer timing, an account review and a reserve need different responses. Square’s guidance helps identify the category; your account supplies the actual reason.

How long will Square hold my funds?

Use the transfer or reserve information for your account. A review may need more documents. We do not promise a release date or apply another seller’s timeline to your balance.

Can I still take payments during a review?

Check which functions the notice restricts. A suspended transfer does not by itself establish whether all new payments are blocked. Confirm the status before changing what you offer customers.

Can a new processor release the Square funds?

No. Square and the relevant bank handle the existing transfer or balance. We help find a new PSP for future sales and get the replacement connection ready.

What if Square has deactivated the account?

Use our Square account-deactivated guide for the appeal and replacement-payment plan. Keep the retained balance and existing customer obligations in view too.
